Throughout the past decade local groups have dreamed and worked towards
enhanced recreation.
The Edgewood Community Dreams Committee represents a number of service
and civic organizations from the community and school district.
The organizations involved are the Edgewood City Council, the Edgewood-Colesburg
Community School District, Edgewood-Colesburg Athletic Booster Club, the
Edgewood Board of Economic Development and the
Edgewood Recreation Association.
The Community Dreams committee has been working on a development plan for
84.5 acres of land that the city of
Edgewood
and the Edgewood Board of Economic Development have purchased. Working with
Craig Ritland Landscape Architects and Associates, our committee has an
exciting plan for the future of
Edgewood
.
Enhancement of the already high quality of life found in
Edgewood
is the goal of the committee. To do this, they wanted a plan that addressed
continued economic development in our community, created additional housing
opportunities and continue enhancement of recreation opportunities for all
members of our community as well as the student athletes of our school
system. In addition to also provide a safe and well-planned recreation area
for all ages for years to come.
There are three phases of the plan that are envisioned to take 15-20 years
to complete. Phase I will begin in the spring of 2004 and be completed by
spring of 2006. Phase I is to build two little league ball diamonds, a
football field and track, a high school baseball diamond, a campground, an
irrigation pond, and roads into the recreation development and housing
development. The goal is for the little league to be using their new
facility in the spring/summer of 2005, the high school football field and
track is slated for completion in the fall of 2005, and the high school
baseball diamond for spring of 2006.
The cost of Phase I is $911,000. The land has already been purchased and
there has already been $80,000 in private donations committed to this
project. Proceeds from other activities, such as the sports slave auction
and the walk/run event will be donated to this project. There will be
continuing support from the city of
Edgewood
, the Edgewood Little League, the Edgewood-Colesburg Vikes Booster Club, and
Edgewood-Colesburg Schools. Outside grants are also being pursued. If you
